RREA launches Liberia Solar Home System Results Base Financing Project

The Government of Liberia(GoL), through the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) along with its local and international partners, has launched the Liberia Solar Home System Result Base Financing Project aimed at expanding electricity access in rural parts of Liberia.

The Liberia Electricity Sector Strengthening and Access Project (LESSAP) is a world Bank-Funded Project implemented through the Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) with the aim to expand electricity access through off-grid solar products and solar mini-grid in selected underserved counties of Liberia, the poorer and more remote regions. 

The project is expected to commence from November 2023 until 2025 for the Direct Subsidy Component and until 2026 for the Indirect Subsidy component. 

The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency is an agency of the Government of Liberia dedicated to facilitating and accelerating access to energy to the rural population.

Speaking in an interview with reporters, the Deputy Executive Director, Stephen G. Potter Sr., said the project is intended to cover all of rural Liberia.

According to him, the purpose was for the one- day event is to buttress our road map to ensuring that the rural population have access to clean renewable energy.

“Today, we seek to launch this initiative the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency has about 40 staff within its employ. Our role is not to implement, our road is to facilitate and accelerate the economic transformation of rural Liberia by providing modern energy services and products,” he said.

“Our efforts today is to launch this initiative to attract private sector into a result based initiative, a result based framework that will help fast track and facilitate access of these products to our rural population, “ he noted

Meanwhile, Mr. Potter extolled the outgoing government for the confidence interested him to serve and pledged commitment to the incoming government that the RREA is committed to working with them to facilitating and accelerating access to electricity to the rural population.
