EPA Boss threatens Arrest

Liberia’s Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) Executive Director has threatened the arrest and prosecution of individuals caught encroaching on wetlands.

Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo is warning individuals constructing wetlands to desist.

The EPA Boss spoke on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) Regular Press Briefing in Monrovia.

Dr. Yarkpawolo disclosed that the Inspectorate Team of the EPA will shortly begin assessing wetlands across the Country.

He said the EPA remains committed to protecting all wetlands throughout Liberia.

In a related development, the EPA Executive Director says the entity has intervened and resolved the recent dispute at the Kpatawee Waterfall in Suakoko District, Bong County.

Dr. Yarkpawolo said: ‘‘The issue was addressed recently, following a day-long stakeholder’s engagement with residents of the area.”

He is, however, urging the public to always seek dialogue and legal remedies to grievances, as doing so will go a long way in the sustenance of peace in stability.
