CSO Council Wants All Hands On Desk to Tackle Issues …Describes Involvement of LDEA Commander, Police Officer As Scaring

The National Civil Society Council of Liberia (NCSCL) wants all hands on deck in the fight against drugs in the country, so as to have a free society.

NCSCL in a statement issued on Thursday, May 23, 2024 stated that the recent revelation by the Director General of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), regarding the involvement of a LDEA commander and a top police officer is scaring and a matter of concern.

It can be recalled that in its quest to leave no stone unturned in the fight to kick drugs out of the country, the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) under the on Monday, May 20, 2024, announced the arrest of one its commanders and a top police officer for being in “bed” with a notorious drugs dealer and folks.

Director of LDEA, Col. Abraham Kromah identified the LDEA Commander as Madam Bendu Massaley and the police officer as Abraham Dormoyan alias “AB Kromah.”

Col. Kromah explained that Commander Massaley Officer “Dormoyan) solicited the amount of US$21,000 from the notorious drugs dealer identified as Allusene for the sole purpose of facilitating a meeting between him (dealer) and him (Col. Kromah) so as to ensure an easy pathway for drugs.

“Over the weekend, our investigation established that a guy who carries the same last name with me; Abraham K. Kromah; whose real name is Durmoyan, had come to me to tell me that he was resigning from the police to come to work for the unit [LDEA). And I opened up to him because I have known him to be a police officer. He actually came during the fast month and so nothing much was discussed. Not knowing, this is a guy who is in bed with drugs dealers. While trying to get employed in the DEA, he had gone to interact with some known drugs dealers and was given US$21,000.” 

“He got that money and went and to our Commander at our Airfield Satellite Deport so that they would find means to get to me. In fact, from our understanding, these people [Alusane and guys first met with our commander. Our Airfield Depot Chief, as a top DEA officer, neglected her function and instead recommended the people to Mr. Dormoyan on grounds that he would easily get to me because he’s closed to me – he’s like a brother to me,” LDEA boss Kromah explained. 

NCSCL in its statement carved under the signature of Madam Loretta Alethea Pope-Kai, noted that this startling revelation over the arrest and subsequent detention of these two law enforcement officers, a fisherman and a young, Liberian calls for more concern and need for concerted effort in fight against drugs transaction.

“Listening to the news of an LDEA officer trying to aid and abate some notorious drugs dealers means we have a great challenge in the war against drugs. It means that the fight is bigger and as such, it needs all hands on deck. It’s time that Liberians of all walks of life rise up to support the government in this fight by reporting all issues of drugs in their respective communities. This is a national fight and should not be left with the government alone,” the statement adds.
