NEC Boss blasts Political Parties Over Delinquency in Attendance of Activities

The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has cautioned political parties to be responsible and stop shying away from political meetings.

Making remarks on Friday, September 29, 2023 at a one- day Demonstration Meeting of the Results Management System for the 2023 General Elections, Madam Lansanah said political parties should be responsible because they are government in waiting.

The NEC in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) conducted a one-day Demonstration of the Results Management System for the 2023 General Elections.

The occasion was attended by civil society organizations, local and international observer missions, representatives of the religious community and the media. But the occasion was poorly attended by representatives of the political parties.

“We want to restate that it is important that when the Commission along with political parties agree to have a meeting, the political parties should show up,” said the NEC boss.

“Even there are times when political parties request a meeting and sent us a letter, that political party that sent the letter often times will not show up in the meeting; it’s other political parties that will come,” she averred.

“These are government in waiting, you have to be responsible to what we know will elevate us to office. We cannot call meetings, sent you invitations by way of chat rooms, telephone calls and then we only have 8 or 9 out of 32 political parties. This does not send out a good signal,” she added.
