In Connection With Kinjor Incident 3 dead, 23 arrested …Police Chief discloses

A day after the Kinjor Bea Mountain incident occurred which was a sad day for Liberia, the Liberia National Police(LNP)  has confirmed the death of two persons and  the  arrest of twenty three(23)  persons. 

Addressing a press over the weekend, LNP Inspector General Gregory Coleman said these deaths brought a sad time to Liberia and he understands the pain of losing a loved one.

With an active and authoritative voice, IG Coleman said all of the deaths   will be properly investigated and there will be absolutely no cover up in combating public trust for law enforcement officers.

IG Coleman pointed out that the case at kinjor has quite down but observing the situation as it is till fluid, stating that they have launched an investigation to establish to that effect.

 Making reference to the video footage released, it was an intense situation of which may had made riot police officers to use weapons as per the proceeding. 

He narrated that police officers were in their cycles as usual during the riots but those citizens intruded those officers and wounded nine (9) officers including burning of the police station which might pushed officers to over live bullet. With that, two officers got bullet wounds.

Meanwhile, three persons were killed during the riot in the mining area.  “Two were killed from bullet and other from a face fight between two non-Policer officers.”

Twenty three (23) were arrested in connection with  the incident who  included  three (3) females  and twenty (20) males. Col. Coleman has assured the Public of the LNP willingness to investigate and discover circumstances that led to their officers releasing firearms.

At the same time, a man identified as Joecephus S. Tukpeh was allegedly beaten to death by Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Power Theft team in Caldwell, New Georgia Friday, March 1, 2024.

According to sources, LEC Power Theft team visited the deceased house and confronted him of stealing current. In the process of confrontation, the team and the deceased got into a heated argument that resulted to them beating the deceased despite him running to his neighbor home for rescue.

The IG added that all of the power theft team that was present when the incident occurred are undergoing Police investigation at the LNP Headquarters.

“There will be void of no interference and we will be transparent as possible. I will release information based on information in real time.” He stressed.
