CNHRDP-L congratulates President-Elect Boakai …But cautions against Making Overly Ambitious Promises

The CSO Network for Human Rights, Democracy & Peacebuilding in Liberia (CNHRDP-L) wishes to congratulate His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai on his ascendency to the Presidency having acquired the highest votes in the November 14 Presidential Run-off Election.

This election in our opinion is a demonstration of Liberia’s preparedness to sustain our hard-earned democracy.

At the same time, CNHRDP-L wants to congratulate His Excellency George Manneh Weah for conceding defeat on a timely basis which demonstrates his commitment to not only consolidating our democracy but also sustaining national peace and reconciliation in a country widely divided over political leadership choices.

‘‘While we recognize the daunting economic climax in the country, we would also like to caution President-Elect Boakai and his team from making unrealistic promises to the Liberian people, many of whom are experiencing hash economic conditions due to rampant corruption and low revenue capacity of Government. His Excellency needs to conduct thorough economic analysis of the country taking into consideration of the country’s revenue capacity and bank reserves before making his 100 Days’ Deliverables.’’

In the absence of macro-scoping the country’s economic status and making 100 days’ deliverables could be disastrous as Liberians expectation would be raised to an uncontrollable level which in our views could lead to social unrest and further undermine government’s development agendas.

CNHRDP-L assures the public of its commitment to continuously engage the Liberian Government with respect to it stand in the fight against corruption, human rights promotion, good governance, national peace and reconciliation.

CNHRDP-L is the conglomeration of five major Civil Society Organizations (The Youth Against Drugs and Substance Abuse in Liberia - YADASA-Liberia, the Humble Youth - HYI, the Regional Watch for Human Rights Watch - RWHR, the Peace Building Resource Center - PBRC and the Cooperative Initiatives for Peace and Development – CIPAD) established to contribute towards the promotion of Human Rights, Democratic-governance and sustainable Peace in Liberia.

Members of CNHRDP-L are renowned human rights and peacebuilding activists with impeccable track records who have worked over the years in their respective organizations and communities to promote human rights, democratic-governance and peace in Liberia.
