LDEA vows Stronger Drug Crackdown Amid Financial Hurdles

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has pledged to ramp up its crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and distribution as well as other dangerous substances within the country.

At a recent news conference, LDEA Director, Abraham Kromah, affirmed the agency's commitment to apprehending and prosecuting individuals including high-ranking public officials, involved in drug trafficking.

Kromah emphasized the agency's increased vigor in executing its mandate, targeting both traffickers and distributors of illegal substances.

Highlighting the dire consequences of drug proliferation, Kromah stressed the urgency of curbing the influx of these substances, which he observed, were devastating the younger generation of Liberia.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including financial constraints, LDEA Boss cited notable achievements during the government's initial 100 Days in power.

He pointed out that the LDEA had made significant strides in apprehending drug dealers, with several arrests already made.

Moreover, Kromah announced that the agency is expanding its scope beyond mere interception to include tracking and seizing profits derived from the sale of illicit drugs. This multifaceted approach aims to cripple the financial networks supporting drug trafficking within Liberia.

In addition to enforcement efforts, the LDEA has launched an extensive awareness campaign to educate communities and individuals about the dangers and consequences of drug abuse. This initiative seeks to empower citizens with knowledge to combat the high prevalence of substance abuse among young people.

Furthermore, the LDEA has forged a collaborative partnership with the Liberia National Police, as evidenced by a recent memorandum of understanding. This collaboration underscores the collective commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug importation and trafficking, leveraging their respective strengths and resources.

Despite financial constraints, the LDEA remains resolute in its mission to safeguard the nation's youth from the scourge of drug abuse, signaling a determined stance in the fight against illicit substances within Liberia.
