Koijee commits to turn over Varlee Telleh for investigation if… writes Justice Minister, clarifies Verdier’s Claims

Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee has written an official letter to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of :Liberia, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, Jr., drawing his (Minister Dean) attention to the continuous falsehood and misrepresentation of his character by the former Chairman of the erstwhile Truth and Reconciliation Commission(TRC), Cllr. Jerome Verdier, who is believed to be in the United States of America. 

In his official letter dated February 27, 2023 and addressed to Minister Dean, Mayor Koijee recalled ‘‘that on February 23, 2023, on Spoon Talk, a phone-in Show and other networks, Cllr. Verdier, without any facts and information available to him, launched a vile attack on my person for an unexplained reason(s). Moreover, he maliciously lied that Varlee Telleh, an ex-combatant under my instructions participated in an unfortunate armed robbery at the home of Counselor Gloria Musu Scott, former Chief Justice of Liberia.’’   

Mayor Koijee, in his official  letter, a copy of which is in possession of the Heritage, continued, ‘‘Further Cllr. Verdier wrongly informed the public that Mr. Telleh is the Deputy for Operations of the Monrovia City Police, City Governance of Monrovia, information that is baseless and unfounded.’’ 

The MCC Boss also recalled in his official  letter that this is not the first time for Cllr. Verdier to spew out such a spiteful statement or remarks on his(Koijee) character for reason(s) best known to him.

Mr. Koijee also vividly recalled that Cllr. Verdier misinformed the public that he(Koijee) was a participant of the Liberian Civil War as a child soldier, which was categorically disproven.

‘‘Honorable Minister, I would like to be categorical that Varlee Telleh is a patrolman of the Monrovia City Police and not Deputy for Operations as maliciously stated by Cllr. Verdier. Mr. Telleh is also a current lecturer MASJID TAHALELE Mosque, a renowned Muslim School in Brewerville, with an enrollment of over 200 students, where he is also an Imam and has been making impactful contributions to our society,’’ Mr. Koijee clarified, contrary to claim by the Ex-TRC Boss.

‘’Additionally, I wish to inform you that Mr. Telleh is currently in Liberia and duly employed with us at the City Government and as you deem fit or the police, I commit to having him turned over to your good office for investigation as we all look forward to finding the perpetrators of the crime against the former Chief Justice and state,’’ the MCC Boss pointed out.

‘‘ In view of the wanton claims by Cllr. Verdier,  I have notified by lawyers both home and abroad to pursue a lawsuit against him to ascertain the truth in order to bring to an end of these repeated, unprovoked, groundless and cruel attacks on my person,’’ the MCC Boss added in his official communication.
