‘I Am Cooperating With the Police’ …Says Ex-Chief Justice Scott, refutes Media Report of Non-Cooperation

A day after the Liberia National Police threatened to take legal action against former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott and others if they did not avail themselves for questioning, Cllr. Scott has refuted reports of non-cooperation with the Liberia National Police(LNP) since the death of her daughter.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the LNP Headquarters on Capitol Hill, Monrovia, Cllr. Scott said after the incident occurred at her home in Brewerville, outside Monrovia, she has repeatedly worked with three separate teams of police investigators and the Ministry of Justice, which speaks of cooperation.

“During the night of this situation and Redemption Hospital declaring her dead, I went straight to the home of the Justice Minister and at that time he assigned two police officers to take me home. The next day, I encountered police officers/ investigators. From that day and even now, this seems like an unending nightmare. That same day they came and talked to me and the following day another team of police came and talked to me. On Friday, the week following the incident, the Justice Minister and some of the investigators interacted with me. The following week they wanted to interact with me but at that time nobody had told me that they needed to interview other members of my household,” Madam Scott narrated.

She continued, “Taking into consideration of what was happening, I informed the investigators that I needed lawyers because I was broken down of what has happened. When I started listening to what was reported in the media then clearly I said I beginning to simmer down to have other professionals around me.
What we learned in law school is only a fool who takes himself a counsel. So, all that had been in media- print and electronic both local and international that I refused to cooperate with the investigators, that is what I am speaking. From my experience and training as a lawyer, when the investigation has been conducted, the investigation institutions are allowed to proceed with their work and even when they are giving such update to the public then you speak to secure the investigation- to protect the integrity of the investigation. But the whole narrative that has been out there that Counselor Scott had refused to cooperate with the police, this is why I am speaking to. This investigation is so critical and from my training, this investigation should be handled professionally.”

When asked as to the allegations of Varlee Telleh, who was allegedly behind said attack, Madam Scott said the source of said information will respond to that. She furthered that during the night hours, there was a person in her house who shouldn’t have been there.

She added that that particular person was the one who killed Charloe Musu. “She didn’t die by herself. When I encountered this person, I engaged their eyes with the pepper spray because it was a question of life and death.”

When she appeared at the LNP Headquarters for questioning on Friday, Madam Scott was accomplished by team of lawyers/ the President of the Liberia National Bar Association- Cllr. Sylvester Ronnie, the President of Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL) Atty. Philomena T. William, Cllr. Augustine Fayiah and others.
