IPSAS 2017 Phase-two training for Comptrollers’ and Accountants’ climaxed in Margibi

The International Public Sector Accounting Standards 2017 phase-two training for government comptrollers and accountants has come to end in Kakata City, Margibi County.

The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning(MFDP), through the department of the comptrollers and accounting general, organized the three-day event, which took place from September -10, 2022.

It was held under the theme: “Ensuring Compliance in Reporting”, and with support from the African Development Bank IPMRP project.

The training was part of ongoing efforts to improve efficiency among Comptrollers and Accountants for sound financial reporting through 2017 International Public Sector Accounting Standards across government ministries and agencies.

Making remarks at the closing session, the Deputy Comptroller and Accountant General-physical Audit, Atty. Steve Joe-Joe who proxy for Hon. Janga A. Kowo, said that building the capacity of comptrollers and accountants across spending entities will ensure that financial reports are delivered on time.

The Public Financial Management Law required all spending entities to submit their reports to the comptrollers and accountant general department office for consolidation before final submission to the General Auditing commission.

For his part, the Director for Accounting Treasury/Technical Services, Dee D. Sandman, said building capacity every quarter is about bringing efficiency, effectiveness and timeliness in terms of “how we report, and what we receive for reporting purposes”.

According to Mr. Sandman, at the end of government budget execution, disbursement reports are key for financial reporting, stating that reporting on time by comptrollers is good.

“At the end of budget execution, disbursement and report are key for financial reporting and if all comptroller's report on time, it is good,” he added.
