Speaking at the opening of the October Term of Court on Monday, October 11, 2021, Chief Justice Korkpor said these reports need fully investigation and appropriate actions taken whether it is real, orchestrated and imagined.
According to him, it is not just enough for the government to just condemn these wanton acts but to handle these cases to their logical conclusions.
He cautioned the government to be more robust in playing its rightful roles, stressing: "Let us not wait until a Justice, Judge or Magistrate becomes a fatal victim before actions are taken".
At the same time, Chief Justice asserted that the financial support to the Judiciary is an understatement to approve the budget of US$14, 973,128.00 for the Judiciary for FY 2020,2021 as this amount is grossly inadequate.
He said many of the reforms program and projects may not hold in the absence of adequate budgetary allocation.
“Additionally, all of the Justices, Judges, Magistrates and the Staff of the Judiciary are feeling severe punch of this low budget allocation,” stated the Chief Justice.
Predicated upon this, he disclosed that the judges have filed an action against the GoL at the Sixth Judicial, Civil Law Court for inadequate financial support to the Judiciary.
