We encourage all to conduct their campaign in a courteous, civilized and prudent manner. We think this is the best way they can sell their platforms to the eligible voters across the county.
When the would be candidates engage in character assassination, mudslinging and other unwarranted acts instead of dealing with the real issues that will impact the lives of the People of Lofa County, yea the Liberian people in general, we further think, this has the proclivity to undermine the entire by-election.
We had observed that our campaign processes are usually marred these negative acts, which do not augur well for our nascent democracy, and therefore, they must stop.
We believe election is not meant for disunity, bitterness, animosity and badmouthing, but rather, it is meant for the people-eligible voters to exercise their democratic franchise-freely chose the candidates of their choice, and in the same token, those who are seeking the mandate of the people must use the campaign process to explain to the voters why they want to be elected.
We again encourage the would be candidates to focus on their platforms and do away with acts that will be of no use to the voters and the county as a whole. On the other hand, we challenge the electorates-voters to be very mindful of sugar-coated statements and promises from the candidates, as they meet you-voters.
We also challenge the voters to make decision that will greatly impact their lives and not to make decision that will make them remain in abject poverty.
Our challenge is predicated on past experiences when some politicians made fabulous promises to the people, and when they were elected, they reneged on those promises at the detriment of the voters.
It is our fervent hope that the pending by- election will pass on peacefully, and the person who will be elected will this time around place the interest of their constituencies and the county above their personal interest.
