‘I Am Guilty for Killing John Tubman’ - Defendant pleads in open Court Featured


At long last, the alleged killer of the son of former Liberian President, William V.S Tubman, Mr. John H. Tubman, 76, has pleaded guilty in open court.

It could be recalled that the Grand Jury for Monsterrado County last year indicted Christian Byron Anderson, Emmanuel F. Forkey and Aloysius Garbleh for the crime of murder and criminal conspiracy over the mysterious murder of Mr. Tubman.

John Hilary Tubman, 76, son of former Liberian President William V.S. Tubman, was found murdered in his home in a pool of blood on September 22, 2021. He was believed to be gay.

During the trial on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, the Prosecution prayed court that they have decided to enter a plea of nolly pose quoi in favor of Emmanuel F. Forkey, who will testify on behalf of the State, adding that Aloysius Garbleh, who is a juvenile, was informed that he did not participate in these crime.

Reading the indictment as to whether he (Christian Bryon) is guilty or not when asked by the court, he responded with a loud voice: "I am guilty."

The Judge at Criminal Court "A" Roosevelt Wille, said the request made by the state is in line with the proceedings and in accordance with the law as enshrined in the Criminal Procedure Law Section 18.1.

Judge Willie granted the request and dismissed prejudice against them.

He furthered that murder being the first felony, which penalty is either death by handing or life imprisonment, the guilty plea of the defendant is set aside and the state through the Ministry of Justice is ordered to proof beyond all reasonable doubt the guilt of the defendant.

At the same time, the Defense lawyer requested court for jury trial of which the court granted with the case rescheduled for Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10: AM.

It can be recalled that on September 21, 2021, Mr. Tubman was found murdered in his home. Later, on November 15, 2021, Liberia National Police arrested Defendant Anderson in River Cess at Sand Beach and announced the others wanted. Days after, the LNP arrested the others and forwarded them to the Monrovia City Court.

According to Police charge, these defendants were charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, theft of property and criminal solicitation in violation of Chapter 14 section 14.1, Chapter 15, section 15.51, Chapter 10, section 10.4 and Chapter 10 section 10.3 of the revised penal law of Liberia.
