The team’s departure followed request from the Manu River Union (MRU) for Liberia to provide emergency assistance to its sisterly Republic.
It can be recalled that the People of Sierra Leone witnessed an explosion of a fuel tanker in the capital Free Town, which claimed about one hundred lives, with another one hundred persons with varied degrees of burns in nearly all the major hospitals.
The MRU considers the explosion as a national disaster and commiserates with the President, Government, People and families who are severely distraught as they are trying to overcome the tragic incidence with such devastating and long term personal and national consequences.
Liberia is dispatching the nine medical personnel in the spirit of the MRU fraternal solidarity.
The Health Ministry’s statement also indicates that the lone surgeon on the team was seconded to the ministry by Partner in Health.
Liberia’s gesture to provide emergency assistance including medicals supplies worth Fifty thousand United States Dollars to the People of Sierra Leone is through the instrumentality of President George Manneh Manneh Weah.
