The accreditation by the National Commission on Higher Education to the Baptist University now fulfills one of the many dreams of former President William R. Tolbert to ensure the Baptist Church in Liberia establishes or operates a University in Liberia.
Speaking at a news conference in Congo Town, outside Monrovia on Monday, November 14, 2022, the President of the Baptist Missionary Educational Convention, Dr. Samuel Reeves, said the founder of the nation recognized that religion and education would be the bedrock to the development of the nation.
" Rev. Dr. William R. Tolbert, Jr.was inspired by this guiding principle when he proposed the establishment of a Baptist University in the year 1964 and 1980," Dr. Reeves stated.
Dr. Reeves stressed that the William R. Tolbert Baptist University when commenced full operation will provide the practical and relevant training ground for the future leaders of Liberia in the 21st Century and beyond.
He furthered that the University will also provide a practical hands on, state of the art training ground for Liberians and others abroad in key areas critical to the development of the country.
He named some of the proposed courses to be offered as Agriculture, Geology, Engineering and Aviation, among others.
Additionally, Science and Technology, Health Care, Land and Natural Resources Management, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and the preparation of students in practical areas key to the development of an underdeveloped nation.
Moreover, Environmental Science with Baptist Christian Values including faith, academic excellent, Moral Integrity, Creativity and Innovation , academy freedom and hard work among others as core to its focus.
"We guarantee our graduates will be better citizens as every degree granted will read with excellence in Character and Excellence in Learning," Rev. Reeves bragged.
Dr. Reeves pointed out that there are several accredited institutions of higher learning in Liberia, offering baccalaureate degrees and above but the William Tolbert Baptist University intends to provide very practical, technical and modern skills for the "New" Liberia from a "Baptist " Perspective.
"The Baptist University will seek and hire top academic talents from Liberia and worldwide and offer a core curriculum of four years’ bachelor program with emphasis in scientific and technical courses," the Convention President stated.
He emphasized saying that the University is a Premier Christian University of Excellence where God centered Leaders, and Change Agents are formed.
