Faith-Based Group to Launch Tuition Free Vocational Skills Training School

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -A non-for-profit organization under the banner of ‘GET’ Empowerment Foundation is set to officially launch a tuition free vocational skills training program in addition to its many programs on Friday, January 29,2021.

The ceremony will be launched at the organization’s headquarters situated on the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway, outside Monrovia. GET, a faith based organization, aims at empowering the youths of Liberia especially less fortunate and under privileged youth using academic activities, moral and vocational skills training programs as well as sporting activities. Also GET Foundation seeks to create the space where young people can have the opportunity to discover their God given talents, gifts and abilities to transform their personal lives as well as to contribute to national development.

The vocational skills school, which started full operation on January 18,2021 with over 200 students, is offering the following courses ; Computer, Soap Making, Catering, Cosmetology or Hair dressing. Others include Agriculture, Tailoring, Interior Decoration and Electronic with durations ranging from three (3) months to 18 months. In an effort to compliment government’s efforts in ensuring that Liberian youth have access to quality vocational training programs where the government is incapacitated to do it alone, a Liberian who has a heart of gold decided to established the school and other programs as a way of giving back to society especially to young boys and girls who are less privileged to obtain education.

The program gears to provide supporting arms to youths he believes have the potential to add to Liberia’s transformation. Since the organization’s formation is in 2016, it has constantly been engaging with young people through sports, retreats, seminars, workshops and other recreation activities to attract their attentions. Up to date, GET Empowerment Foundation has established a sports Academy called Wonderland with ages below sixteen for both girls and boys.
The academy is not only limited to football, but also teaches the young people moral values and life skills. Activities such as debate, quizzing and spelling competitions are developed to equip their whole body.

Another program run by the organization is the ‘All Girls Initiative,’ which basically targets girls’ education. Feed My Community Agriculture Project is another project by the organization and it brings together young people to plant crops to feed the community. An agricultural site is secured temporarily in the Cotton Tree Community, where crops such as cabbage, cucumber, tomatoes, watermelons and garden eggs are planted. Meanwhile, some of the key dignitaries expected to grace the official launch include: Col. J. Andrew Browne, Swedish Ambassador Ingrid Wetterqvist as Keynote Speaker, while the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Minister Nathaniel McGill will serve as Chief launcher, and Montserrado County District #6 Representative Samuel Enders as co- launcher.
