Pres. Weah makes new appointments in Government, retains two top auditors at GAC Featured

President George Manneh Weah has made new appointments in government affecting the Judiciary, General Audit Commission, and Internal Auditing Agency.

The Liberian Chief Executive on Monday, May 16, 2022, named Cllr. Necular Y. Edwards as Judge of the Monthly and Probate Court (Montserrado County) and Cllr. U-Jay Bright as Judge of Tax Court (Montserrado County).

Cllrs. Edwards and Bright replace J. Vinton Holder (deceased) and His Honor Mozart Chesson (retired) respectively.

President Weah also named Mr. David Kemah as Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA).

At the General Auditing Commission (GAC), the Liberian Leader nominated Foday G. Kiazolu, Deputy Auditor General for Administration, Winsley S. Nanka, Deputy Auditor General for Audit Services and G. Cecil Dole, Deputy Auditor General for Special Audits.

Interestingly, the appointment of Foday G. Kiazolu as Deputy Auditor General for Administration and Winsley S. Nanka as the Deputy Auditor General for Audit Services by President Weah suggests that the Liberian Leader has explicit confidence in them as the two top auditors previously served in their respective positions. By retaining the two top GAC officials, some expert auditors described the President’s decision as judicial and in the right direction on account that the works of the pair at the GAC over the years speak for themselves and that replacing them could take long time for the newcomers to adjust to the GAC system, which they expert auditors termed as very technical.

Meanwhile, the appointments are subject to confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate.
