Yearning For More Support to Mitigate the Growing Fire Outbreaks

There is an urgent need for the Government of Liberia (GoL) to provide the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) more capacity building, empowerment and logistics to help mitigate the growing fire outbreaks in the country.

The LNFS was established by an Act of the National Legislature in 1963 to safeguard life and property from the scourge of destructive fire outbreaks across the country as well as to promote efficient fire prevention.

But we have observed that the lack of operational materials is seriously impeding the operations of the LNFS in drastically tackling fire outbreaks across the country.

We understand that the bureau needs multi-purpose firefighting trucks, turntable ladders and foam compartments to enable it effectively tackle fire outbreaks.

Beside these needed equipment, we also understand that the bureau needs modern fire stations throughout the length and breadth of the country, firefighting clothing, high risk disaster clothing and respiratory masks and vehicles, as they are very essential materials in fighting fire incidents in the country.

While we sincerely acknowledge the efforts of the GoL and others in resuscitating the LNFS, we encourage the GoL to do more in bringing this once viable entity to its prewar status.

Frankly, the need to provide the LNFS more capacity building, empowerment and logistics to help mitigate the multiplying fire outbreaks in the country cannot be overemphasized.

When there is a fire situation in any area, the first person to move in is the fire fighter with the needed resources to response to the incident.

It is our ardent hope that the GoL will consider the LNFS amongst its lists of priorities for the enhancement of our beloved country, Liberia.
