While we sincerely acknowledge the strides made by the previous Governments, mainly the Government of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in tackling the multiplying mental health problems in the country, we entreat the CDC-led Government to find hard-wearing solutions to the problems associated with mental illness. As a means of addressing the increasing mental health problems, we recommend to the government to ensure that mental health treatment is made available at health facilities across the country. When mental health treatment is made available at health centers nationwide, we believe, the swelling mental health problems would be drastically reduced, if not curtailed.
On the other hand, we caution all those, who are in the habit of stigmatizing people who are mentally ill to desist, as they-mentally ill people are Liberians and not outsiders. We must treat mentally ill people like any other Liberian patients at the various health centers across the country, because anybody can be affected with mental illness. To this end, we again encourage the government to consider mental illness as one of its priorities even though we understand that there are many competing demands before it (government). We hope that President Weah will honestly heed our plea for the enhancement of our beloved country, Liberia.
