This is very important, because the urgent need to improve the lives of the Liberian people, most of whom are living in abject poverty, cannot be overstated. In this vein, we wholeheartedly commend a United States based humanitarian organization, under the banner “Varney Taylor Foundation” that recently identified with patients at three major hospitals in Bomi, Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu Counties. As part of its humanitarian gesture, the Varney Taylor Foundation, provided several dozens of nose masks and assorted food items to patients at the Liberian Government Hospital in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, St. Timothy Hospital in Robertsports, Grand Cape County and the Chief Jallahlone Hospital in Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County.
Making separate remarks while donating the items, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Varney Taylor Foundation, Matthew Dablo, said gesture was the organization’s own way of identifying with the patients through the hospitals as the country combats against the covid-19 virus. Mr. Dablo, a former Representative of Grand Cape Mount County, on behalf of the Founder of the organization, Mr. Varney Taylor, who is currently residing in the United States of America (USA), pointed out that the foundation deems it necessary to identify with people who are ill and are unable to get basic things for themselves.
“We are donating these items because it’s the best time to do such. The Founder of this organization, Mr. Varney Taylor feels that in times such as the fight against this disease, it is the patients who are usually victimized and as such, it was necessary for the Foundation to identify with them,” said Mr. Dablo. On behalf of Mr. Taylor, the former lawmaker of Grand Cape Mount County, promised officials of the hospitals that the foundation will in the soonest possible time look into other areas of assistance. For us, we are elated by the gesture of the US based humanitarian organization for the initiative, and therefore, we will not allow this human driven gesture to pass unnoticed.
While the Government of Liberia(GoL) is making frantic efforts to provide for the hospitals, it is also important for other organizations to buttress the government’s efforts. We encourage the organization to continue this worthy gesture by reaching out to more hospitals across the country. Again, we commend the US based humanitarian organization for the gesture.
