As the biometric voters’ registration process by the National Elections Commission (NEC) enters its second week, a representative aspirant of Electoral District #12 has called on Liberians to gather in their numbers to get registered.
Based on the series of violent instances currently occurring in and around the country especially with the case of Monrovia District #10- Montserrado County, the Rural Human Rights Activists Programme (RHRAP) is urgently calling on the international community (The US Embassy, The EU and its Embassies near Monrovia, the African Union, ECOWAS, etc.) to prevail on national government, especially the Ministry of Justice, the Judiciary to timely and fairly enforce the rule of law without favor that will lead Liberia to a free, fair, participatory and democratic elections in October 2023.
The National Elections Commission (NEC) says that the biometric voter registration (BVR) system is designed in a way that any duplicate registration will be detected during the biometric adjudication process through the Central Management System and the voter information of registrants involved will be deactivated.
The National Elections Commission (NEC) has said it has received funding from the Government of Liberia for the payment of Temporary Biometric Voter Registration Staff that are currently serving citizens of Liberia at the 1,065 Registration Centers in Bomi, Gbarpolu, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi and Montserrado Counties.
Since the start of the Biometric Voters Registration Process, tension has been blowing in Electoral District #10, Montserrado County, with riot police of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the Liberia National Police (LNP) spraying up teargas to restore calm on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
The National Elections Commission (NEC) is conducting a three-day Data Collection training workshop for elections monitors in Ganta City, Nimba county. Under the theme, “Ensuring Integrity, Transparency, Inclusion and Credibility in the Electoral Processes,” the workshop, which is being held under the aegis of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department, is intended to provide election monitors skills in data collection on the participation of women and marginalized groups in the electoral process.
