West Africa College of Physicians ends 7th Annual General and Scientific Meeting …adopts Five-Year Strategic Plan
Dressed in their black medical gowns, professional members of the West Africa College of Physicians, Liberia Chapter gathered in Congo Town, outside Monrovia to participate in its 7th annual general and scientific meeting.
Speaking on the theme: ‘‘Primary Health Care, the Foundation of Health for All’’, the Vice Chairperson of WACP- Liberia's Chapter, Musu J. Duworko who proxy for the President, stressed the need for adequate support to be given to the sector.
According to her, the World Health Organization envisioned the highest standard of health for all without discrimination.
She stated that it is about time that authorities acknowledge health as a human right.
"Health is key to the economy of the country and it is a fundamental right that all should enjoy," Madam Duworko emphasized.
However, she blasted that it is unfortunate that authorities perceived health to the contrary.
She used the occasion to call on authority to have a timely and acceptable intervention which is part of their legal obligations in ensuring that everyone has access to equal and adequate health care.
Launching the five-year strategic plan for the West African College of Physicians, Liberia Chapter was Professor Roseda E. Marshall who called on members to work in ensuring that the plan is implemented.
She hailed the crafters of the plan and hopes that the plan captures key interventions to include access and capability, visibility and many others.
" I challenge you to remain focused to your goals and I hope that the plan will project your desire and measurable goals," she pointed.
Founded in 1976, the West Africa College of Physicians is a professional society of medical specialists in the West African Subregion.
The Association promotes postgraduate specialist training, professional curriculum development and fellowship certification in six sub- specialties or faculties to include Community Health, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics , Psychiatry and Laboratory Medicine ,specifically concentrations in Anatomical pathology , chemical pathology, Hematology and medical Microbiology .
The College, among other things, serves as a health policy advisor to many participating governments in West Africa.
It also helps in promoting excellence of professional training and standards of physicians in West Africa as well as to contribute to the improvement of health care in West Africa by providing a designation for specially trained physicians thereby indicating that they properly qualified.
The body also helps to encourage and assist and to have a continuing concern in health matters.
