Pres. Boakai launches Digital Transformation Project For 10,000 Youths

As he launched the Digital Transformation Project that would provide information, communication and technology knowledge for 10,000 young people, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai  has said  the transformational process is of more pressing need for the country.

Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia,  the Liberian leader pointed out that digital transmission is not a choice for Liberia, but a necessity.

He noted that it’s time to act decisively harness the power of digital transformation as Liberia stands the chance to attain many opportunities that accelerate progress in the areas of education, health and business.

He asserted that digital transformation is key to unlocking Liberia’s full potential and a key iota of the country’s development agenda.

“We can empower our citizens to participate in the digital economy. This can serve as a catalyst for economic advancement for our country,” President Boakai told the gathering as he urged key government sector functionaries to work closely with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to accelerate e-government framework.

“This is about revolutionizing the way we make business. The global economy offers a lot and we must work to strengthen our digital economy.”

Moving forward, the President disclosed that the Ministry of Education will review the curriculum of all grade schools to ensure compulsory computer education.

“The future of Liberia is undeniably bright. Liberia will compete on the global stage. This is a foundation for a prosperous future to come. We have to turn our dream into reality,” he added as he encouraged stakeholders and businesses to improve digital economy.

Mr. Abdulai Kamara, Acting Chairperson of LTA, says the project is huge and it is just a tip of the iceberg.

Kamara stated that ICT remains the driver or facilitator of economic growth, and as such, digital transformation is an imperative.

“Using technology is the most efficient, most reliable to transact government’s activities because it promotes transparency. We need to do a lot to promote digital transformation.”

Youth and Sports Minister Mr. Cole Bangalu explained that the project is a youth-focused and youth-centered transformative program intended to help change the way of business that translates to the growth and development on the overall.
