Police Inspector Visits Lofa Amid Tensions In Guinea

The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory Coleman, has arrived in Lofa County to assess security measures and strengthen the police’s preparedness in light of escalating tensions in neighboring Guinea.
Speaking during his visit, the Police Inspector emphasized the importance of safeguarding Liberian citizens, particularly those residing near the border.
“We are here to ensure the safety of our people, especially given the current situation in Guinea, which poses potential risks for Liberia,” he stated.
The visit comes amid reports of instability in Guinea, raising concerns about cross-border security and the potential for spillover effects in Liberia.
Lofa County, which shares a border with Guinea, has been identified as a key area for bolstering law enforcement capacity.
To enhance operations in the region, the Police Inspector announced plans to provide two vehicles to the Lofa County Police Department.
“These vehicles will significantly improve the mobility and effectiveness of our officers in maintaining law and order,” he promised.
Local residents have welcomed the visit, expressing hope that increased police presence and resources will enhance their sense of security.
“The support is much needed, especially now that we are hearing about instability in Guinea,” said a community leader in Voinjama.
The Inspector also met with local police officials to discuss strategies for border security, community policing, and intelligence gathering.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
As part of his tour, the Police Inspector engaged with community members to build trust and encourage collaboration with law enforcement.
“We cannot ensure safety without the cooperation of the people,” he told a gathering of local stakeholders.
The provision of vehicles is expected to address longstanding logistical challenges faced by the Lofa County Police Department, which has struggled with inadequate resources for patrols and emergency response.
While the situation in Guinea remains uncertain, the Police Inspector assured citizens that the LNP is monitoring developments closely.
He called for vigilance and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
The visit highlights the government’s proactive approach to addressing regional security threats and underscores the importance of strengthening local law enforcement capacity in border counties.
