MOH begins 3rd International CHW Symposium Today
The Government of Liberia(GoL), through the Ministry of Health(MoH), will today, Monday, March 20, 2023 begin its 3rd International Community Health Workers (CHW) Symposium with over 700 delegates to participate from 46 countries around the world.
The event is scheduled to be held at the E.J.S. Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, under the theme: ‘‘Advancing Community Health Workers Program to Build Resilient Equitable Health System that Accelerate Primary Health Care for Universal Health Courage.’’
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, March 19, 2023, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, said the objective of the symposium is to foster cross countries learning and exchange action through engagement.
According to Dr. Jallah, the delegates will be showcasing countries experience with integrating and adopting skilling and community outreach programs.
She said the delegates will also focus on spotlights countries examples of financing model to demonstrate sustained financing for community health workers.
The Health Minister added that the conference is intended to enhance accountability and governance by prioritizing measurement and harmonizing to monitor progress towards institutionalizing community health workers program.
Meanwhile, UNICEF West Central Africa Health Specialist, Dr. Denis Maluza, expressed excitement in the government for organizing the Symposium, urging community health practitioners to do more as they are the pillar of the health system.
"for us as UN family, we are so excited that this forum is coming together in one day to talk about community health program which we acknowledge as the pillar of the health system.
Community health is no longer something outside the health system but an integral part. We have seen how community health has been pivotal in achieving the UN Developmental Goals but we are still counting on them as a platform for achievement of the health care sustainable development goal," he stressed
