Report: Nyonblee Set For White Ballot Victory Today

As Senators go to the poll to elect members to various leadership position on today, Monday, January 15, 2024, this paper has gathered that the Liberian Senate has zeroed in on a resolution to make Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonble Karnga-Lawrence the President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate.

The report has been given further authentication by a supporter of the outgoing government of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Sinoe County Senator Cllr. Augustine Chea.

In a Facebook post, Sen. Chea conceded that the CDC has already lost its way out for the Pro-Tempore position.

“We've lost the race for President Pro Tempore. Our candidate didn't make it to the finish line. Even the party's loyal Senators that stayed the course until late Saturday afternoon when the Resolution of the Senate Retreat was signed by 17 Senators in support of the other candidate, surrendered when we realized we've been conquered or that with or without us, the deal was done,” Sen. Chea noted.

“But adding insult to injury was the fact that some of the independent Senators we depended on abandoned us, probably because of our choice of candidate and/or the failure to reach out to them early. Today’s   Senate President Pro- Tempore Election will be a mere formality. Senator Karnga-Lawrence will become the next President Pro Tempore,” he added.

 With that, it is expected that today’s elections are going to be done on a consensus basis with the Grand Bassa Senator sailing through on the white ballot to become the country’s first female President Pro-Tempore since Grace Minor more than two decades (2003).

With respect to the leadership positions, a consensus has been reached on several positions including:  Senators James P. Biney -Chairman on Executive; Augustine Chea – Chairman on Judiciary; J. Gblo-Brown- Chairman on Rules, Order and Administration; Abraham Darius Dillon - Chairman on Foreign Affairs; Prince K. Moye- Chairman on Ways, Means and Budget, Saah H. Joseph- Chairman on Health; Albert T. Chie - Chairman on Public Works and Rural Development;

Armara Konneh- Chairman on Public Accounts and Audits; Jonathan Boycecharles Sogbie- Chairman on Maritime; Simeon B. Taylor- Chairman on Lands, Mines, Energy and Natural Resources and Edwin Melvin Snowe- ECOWAS Parliament.
