As he took on the microphone to officially dedicate a modern electronic scoreboard provided by a US-based Liberian group under the banner of Great Ball Players, President George Manneh Weah did not mince his words in heaping praising on his Minister of Youth and Sports for diligently performing his assigned tasks.

Since the inception of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) led- Government headed by President Weah,  Dester Zeogar Wilson has been serving the as the country’s Minister of Youth and Sports.

President Weah said though there were many who doubted the ability of Minister Wilson upon his appointment, his works at the Ministry has proved him to be the right person for the job.

“Minister Wilson I want to thank you for your job, though many doubted your ability to deliver the good. But like I always say, no one does it until it is done,” said the Liberian leader.

Also thanking the Great Ball Players for their contribution, President Weah hoped that the new technology will improve our game. T

“The technology will ensure that the score is the score because no one will temper with it. Bit by bit, we will get there. We will have more sports facilities. With more facilities, we will forge ahead. We hope to have some of our biggest stars turning into NBA stars,” he added.

Like President Weah, Minister Wilson in brief remarks, lauded the US-based Liberian group for its immense contribution to the game of basketball.

He said the initiative is a result of an engagement with the group during a visit to the US.

“This is a result of engagement with different groups in the US. With those engagements, Great Ball Players listened to us and this is why they are here today,” the Minister noted.

Deputy Minister for Sports Andy Quamie described the group’s contribution of the modern scoreboard as patriotic.

“They decided to pay back to basketball because of what the sport has done for them. We hope that you will do more. Again, we are honored by this support.”

In remarks, a representative of the Great Ball Players, Mr. Jonathan Harvey, said the initiative is a means of giving back to their country.

“Great Ball Players was founded some seven years ago. We came together to help to develop the game of basketball and many other sports in Liberia. We want to give back to our country by developing basketball and other sports,” Harvey asserted.

For his part, the President of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF),  Abraham Samukai, thanked the Great Ball Players for its service to nation and President Weah for creating an enabling environment for sports development.

He, however,  called on the Liberian leader to step into the long-standing conflict within the Federation for the growth and development of the game.
