New Taekwondo President vows to Rebrand Martial Arts

The newly elected president of the Liberia Taekwondo Federation (LTF), Master Junior Russian Pewee, has promised to rebrand martial arts across the country.

Speaking on Saturday, May 19, 2023 at program making the commencement of a three-day national championship, Mr. Russian said the federation is focused on improving the sports.

He said Martial Arts has been one of the leading sports in Liberia and has made headways but for over ten years, the sport has been in a dying hope.

According to him, the hosting of the championship is historic for taekwondo in Liberia and it will be used to select players with talents for the next generation Martial Arts Team.

"This is the first step to get them to represent their country and they must be transparent and fair in their game," he said.

He also urged athletes to show sportsmanship for the good of the sports.

"We will get there through concerted effort. Please cheer our future athletes to victory. To our athletes, please play fair game that will lead to success," he lamented.

For the first time in over ten years, the federation kicked-off its first national championships.

The championship is a three-day event that is taking place at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City, outside Monrovia.

According to the organizers, the competition is in three categories for players between the ages of 7-15, junior national team and senior national team.

On Saturday, the kickoff saw day one with lots of kids showing their talents while  on this Wednesday will see junior national team players involve into a competition while it will conclude on Saturday with senior national players.
