From Black Sand to Artificial Turf …Chief Patron of Sports dedicates Historic West Point Sports Pitch

As roads are said to be taking gigantic boost under the Administration of President George Manneh Weah so is sporting infrastructure across the country.

Well this is so because of the historic dedication of Liberia's number one slum community (West Point) playing pitch.

The Community known for fishing also has a convincing sporting population that over the period hosted the lower division league branded as the West Clara League.

The former sandy but physical field, which has over the period show case the talents of bright stars of Liberia, has now been transformed to a mini artificial turf, first of its kind under the leadership of obviously a Footballing President and Chief Patron of Sports, George Manneh  Weah.

Giving back to his root even though there has been mixed views in the corridors of the country relative to impact and major improvement within the sector under a former World Player of the Year, Weah continues to prove the critics wrong.

Very focused and unbending in his quest to do the needful for the sector, the soccer legend is said to be touching the lives of footballing communities through the construction of artificial turfs and other sporting facilities across the country.

As residents of West Point, never dream of such facility, they were overwhelmed to shower praises on President Weah by finally putting smiles on their faces.

"The dream is alive, we are so, so happy and we salute our own, President Weah for such a historic development," said a resident of the Township of West Point.

The pitch, which has now added new look and beauty to the Township, also has a major concern of maintenance, especially with the huge population of the community.

According to the Project Head, Trokon Kpui, the new and historic sporting facility cost US$ 399,000.00 and includes a toilet, Change room, Office space, Solar lights, Night Game lights, 
Painting and Zinc Replacement for houses and Drainage including the installation of Artificial Turf.

Meanwhile, an exhibition match to mark  the climax of the dedicatory ceremony was played at the new West Point field between West Point Old Timers and Weah's Spartacus  as the former World Best was in action to refresh and remind the footballing sector of his good old days on the playing pitch; while the exhibition of stars, skills, dribbles and many others caught the eyes and attentive attention  of the happy West Pointers on their heels till the end of the one day encounter
