As Kickball Federation honors Outstanding Players, Renewed Calls For Their Own Playing Pitch, Calls On Chief Patron's Timely Intervention

At a sizable players, stakeholders Annual Awards Ceremony, officials of the Liberia Kickball Federation celebrated outstanding and talented kickball players for their extraordinary display during the just ended August 21, 2022 League Season.


Dancing, applauds, tears of joy and celebrations characterized the annual merited and or awards ceremony held at the Basketball  Gymnasium of the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports complex in Paynesville City, outside Monrovia.


Speaking at the program, the President of LKF Ambassador Emmanuel Surprise Whea,  said despite the continuous challenges facing the federation, kickball will not die in Liberia.

As a means of helping to improve the traditional game in Liberia, President Whea said it is now time that they reach out to key actors, movers and shakers of the country in order for them to see the need to support the game in Liberia.

"It is better to owned than to borrow or credit, as such, it is now time that we have our own pitch," he re-echoed.

According to him, they will plan a peaceful petition ceremony to reach out to the Chief Patron of Sports, President George Manneh  Weah to draw his attention to see the need to construct a playing pitch for kickball in Liberia.

"We have to do it together and peacefully and let me restate, it will be a peaceful petition ceremony and not a protest,"  he stated. 


Mr. Whea said if they have their own playing pitch, it will help add more respect to the game and the players including giving them the needed dignity they (players ) deserve.

"We need to have our own playing pitch, imagine , our players all women dressed in the open, this is unfortunate and needs to change and now is the time," he lamented. 

President Whea,  who hailed the Security Expert Guard Agency of Liberia (SEGAL)  through its Chief Executive Officer Momo Cyrus for its support to the 2022 League Season,  called on the public to join in supporting Liberia's traditional game, kickball for the betterment of the sector.


Speaking about other plans to help the players, Amb. Whea disclosed that the life after kickball program is making gradual impact among the players.

The program, he stressed, is, among other things, meant to help players sustain themselves after the end of their short term kickball career.


"We have about four of our players who have so far benefited from the program and we now have a new opportunity of ten players, with six already signed up as we encourage the balance four to take advantage of  the opportunity,"  the Federation boss further indicated.

Meanwhile,  Theresa Gaye, won the Most Valuable Player awards amongst her friends for the 2022 League Season.

Highest home runner, best pitcher , best kickball sports journalist , Edwin Boye Dolo , best social media entity and many more were attractive awards, outstanding players , journalists and media entity all walked away with at the end of the ceremony with smiles, dancing and celebrations to make the end of the annual awards ceremony.
