ALJA Midwest Chapter President congratulates President-Elect Boakai …emphasizes Peace as Key to Development

The President of the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas, Success Minor, has underscored the need for the incoming government to prioritize maintaining peace in the country.

Mr. Minor, who congratulated President-Elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his well-deserved and hard-earned victory of the ruling party, stated that only with peace and unity among the people can real progress be achieved under his new administration.

He maintained that peace should be a pivotal and key pillar of the new government because it serves as the engine for development. “I am so happy and proud of the Liberian people for listening to our plea and participating peacefully in the Presidential Runoff election. This is a good sign that our democracy is maturing over time,” he added.

The former Representative aspirant of District thirteen Montserrado County, who was among those campaigning for a peaceful and non-violent election, simultaneously encouraged Liberians to see the country as the bigger picture and focus on initiatives that will move the country forward, not backward.

According to the ALJA’s Midwest Chapter President, the decision by the people in the just-ended Presidential Runoff election shows their high and desperate desire for a change for a better Liberia, challenging the incoming government to live up to the expectations of the Liberian people.

Amb. Boakai has already assured his people, as part of his one hundred days’ deliverables, to review the causes, challenges, and essential issues affecting the people. However, Mr. Minor hopes that his words will be matched with tangible actions in the interest of the people.

He, at the same time, hailed outgoing President George Weah for always showing his supremacy as the king of peace. He said the timely acceptance of the election results, including the peace statement by the CDC’s flag bearer, are all splendid characteristics of a good, humble, and peaceful leader who means well for his people, whether in government or not.

Success, who also described the tragic car accident two days ago that led to the death of at least four people and the injury of over two dozen people outside the fence of the Unity Party Headquarters in Central Monrovia as sad and unfortunate, also warned Liberians to avoid pointing accusing fingers and jumping to early conclusions.

Let’s give the investigation a chance and avoid statements and thoughts that will undermine the peace of the country,” he noted. He further urged Liberians to remain peaceful and tolerant of each other and work in unison for the betterment of their motherland.
