Jeety Decries High Level of Hunger Among “Zogos” Featured

The Honorary Consul General of India to Liberia, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, who is generally called Jeety, has described the hunger level among ‘Zogos’ as the greatest ever he has seen in his 34 years of stay in Liberia.

The ‘Zogos’ are considered as Liberia’s forgotten child soldiers-they are jobless, homeless and addicted to drugs.“The hunger I have seen among the Zogos, I have never seen that type of hunger. I have been living in Liberia for the last 34 years of my life. I have not seen people hungry for a plate of food like that before. A hungry man is an angry man. If they don’t have food, they will be vulnerable to society,” Jetty asserted.Speaking to the Voice of America (VOA) Africa Service, Jeety then underscored the need to curtail such feeling in a bid to save the society.

The much publicized feeding initiative by the prominent Indian diplomat and businessman are carried at some of the country’s most fierce ghetto communities where street thugs are gathered for rest. “The distributions are done normal week days; from Monday to Friday with at least seven hundred persons fed, and about 500 a day on Saturdays and Sundays,” he told the VOA. It can be recalled that since the inception of the distribution of the cooked food, the initiative has fed close to 100,000 disadvantaged youth.Aside from providing the food, Jeety has also distributed over 7,000 masks for use by the “Zogos” in a bid to support the Government of Liberia effort in the fight against the Coronavirus disease.

“I have distributed over 7,000 masks among them. If you don’t have a mask, you will not be served; that has been the qualification for getting the food, because we want to promote the safe hygiene as we fight this disease,” he, among other things, added. Also speaking to Moses Garzeawu of the VOA, a leader of the “Zogos” Mr. Mohammed Fahnbulleh, commonly known as “Five Star,” lauded Jetty for his kind gesture, describing it as a blessing from God.“Five Star” disclosed that all 365 men and 120 women under his control survive through personal hustles.“Sometimes NGos and others can come to help us with food, but in most cases prior to the coming of Jeety, we used to hustle for ourselves,” he further disclosed.
