As an annual gesture, President Weah donated 2,400 bags of rice to the Muslims in the country valued at US$31,200.
Buttressing the rice as soup kind as well as transportation of the rice to the rest of the 15 counties in the country, the Liberian leader also provided additional two million, two hundred and fifty thousand Liberian Dollars to the Muslims during such a historic religious time in the country.
The presentation of the rice and cash was made available by Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf and the Chairman of the National Superintendent Council, Mr. JanjayBaikpeh of Grand Bassa County.
In a brief remark, Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf, stressed that the donation was the Liberian leader own way of identifying with Muslims throughout Liberia during the month-long fast and prayer time.
He admonished the Muslims community in Liberia to keep the country in their prayers, especially during the ongoing global pandemic of which Liberia is of no exception.
Re-echoing his statement also was Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Mr. JanjayBaikpeh, who commended President Weah for his timely initiative to Liberian Muslims.
He pointed out that President Weah’s gesture demonstrates his openness that he is a President for all Liberians despite their religious and other backgrounds.
The gesture by President Weah is not the first of its kind since taking over as President of Liberia.
It can be recalled that President Weah over the period has donated food and cash to Liberian Muslims and also assisted them with traveling finances during the annual trip to Mecca.
