He said highlighting the activities of the government and the development projects of the country are welcoming initiatives of members of the fourth estate and should be acknowledged. Speaking in Karnplay City Nimba County as part of his second leg of his first county tour, he pointed out that it is only through the media the global village will see and know exactly what is happening in Liberia as such he encouraged them to do more. “We are not saying you should not report the facts as you see them or have been doing in the past but it is equally important to flag the positive things that the government is doing in order to show case the good image of your country to the world because, No one will do it for you except you yourselves,” the Liberian leader told the Liberian media.
In a drive to help motivate the sector, the Liberian Chief Executive at a one-day Town hall meeting also instructed the Minister of Finance and Development Planning(MFDP) to see the need to empower the already struggling Liberian media as is being done in other countries and not as a means of buying them. “Finance Minister Samuel Tweah please take note about the empowerment of the Liberian media,” President Weah emphasized. In another development, President Weah, in response to some of the requests from the people of Karnplay Nimba County, promised to help address them.
He named some of his initial interventions for the people in close consultation with the relevant functionaries of government as the construction of a City Hall in Karnplay, the construction of the head office of members of the disabled community in Karnplay as well as the rehabilitation of a mini-sports stadium in Karnplay City, women empowerment and many others.
