Presenting the reports on separate no test at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism(MICAT) on Capitol Hill, Monrovia, Liberia’s Justice Minister and Attorney General, Frank Musa Dean, recalled that during the morning hours of Thursday, October 1, 2020 both Gifty A Lama and Albert Peters left their West Point and Barnersville residences respectively and were not seen by relatives until their unresponsive bodies were discovered in the early morning hours of Friday, October 2, 2020. They were found in a blue 2001 Toyata highlander Jeep, bearing license plate number -A4512984 , later established to be owned by Albert Peters. They were both confirmed dead by doctors at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center on October 2, 2020.
Consistent with volume 1, title 2, chapter 7 of Liberia’s Criminal Procedure Law, the Coronor of Montserrado County having declared their deaths suspicious, the Ministry of Justice ordered that post-mortem examinations autopsies be performed on the remains. Minister Dean disclosed that an examination of the Lonestar MTN and Orange call logs of the deceased persons, statements provided by relatives and individuals in connection with the incident revealed that both of them were seen in Albert’s vehicle.
He pointed out that some thefts, who stole a lab top and three Cell phones among others from Albert’s vehicle, unveiled that they were in alcohol while five gallons of containers were seen failed with gasoline while the interior of the vehicle had multiple holes under the back seat of the vehicle with two centimeters in diameter. Additionally, the report also reveals that the under surface of said vehicle subsequently showed multiple leaks on the exhaust system proximal to the catalytic converter between the catalytic converter and the muffler and other distal to the muffler.
He said the investigation findings show no alcohol detection from the two deceased, but a positive of blood carbon monoxide as well as hydro carbon while no liver common poison or drugs were detected including gastric content poison /drug including kidney heavy mental were all negative. However, the cause of deaths of both Gifty A. Lama and Albert Peters, according to professional opinion based on available evidence, the manner of ‘death is unnatural and accidental.’ The report also named carbon monoxide poisoning, exacerbated by gasoline/ hydrocarbon fumes and fumes from detective car exhaust system defect in the floor of the car were all additional causes of deaths, the report further noted.
As for Emmanuel Barthen Nyesaw, according to the investigation findings, he was observed to have taken in drinks, including alcohol at the Calabash Entertainment Center at the Congo Town Back Road on October 10, 2020, prior to his demise. Minister Dean said the former Internal Audit Agency Director General reportedly arrived at his 72ND Paynesville Residence at approximately at 11:00pm from the Calabash Entertainment Center and proceeded upstairs in his bedroom, but was later seen unconscious lying downstairs by his security guard with blood flowing from his left ear. Narrating further, he mentioned that the distance from the escape door elevation to the ground floor is measured 13.1 feet.
Nyeswa due to his injury sustained, according to the investigation findings, was later rushed at the JFK Hospital and was announced clinically dead at 4:00pm, according to medical reports. Relevant autopsy findings show massive injuries to the head, chest and abdomen, no metallic density neither foreign body found and has officially disclosed that his cause of death is: massive hemorrhage, multiple bony and soft tissue injuries and blunt injuries consistent with the fall from height. Meanwhile, the report further indicated that a police detective investigation will be required, but the manner and professional cause of death is unnatural death as well as accidental, homicidal or suicidal.
As of George Fahnboto, he was observed driving a maroon Nissan Frontier pickup bearing license plate #A60952 on Sunday, October 4, 2020, on excessive speed in the direction of the 72nd Community at 5:10pm and ran into a speed breaker and landed in the garage of Dr. Joseph T.K. Boakai’s private residence about 200ft from the road. The report stress that as a result of the accident he sustained injuries and was rushed at the JFK where he was pronounced dead. Relevant autopsy findings also show that George had head injuries in the chest and abdomen, but no metallic density including foreign body.
However, his cause of death is right frontal cerebral confusion and disruption of brain with hemorrhages, right frontal complex depressed comminuted fracture, vehicle in the head on collision and side impact with house and road traffic accident which eventually resulted to manner of death as unnatural and accidental. Meanwhile, Minister Dean, among other things, added the autopsies, which were performed by Dr. Benedict B. Kolee, BSc, M.B., ChB MGCP and Dr. Zoeborn B. Kparteh, BSc, M.D., MGCP, MWACP(Path) Pathologists were observed by the media, relevant government agencies and organizations and other civil society groups to include: WIPNET,JFL, News, Public, Heritage, Ministry of Justice, the Liberian National Police, the CORONER, the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, INJL-Press and the Truth FM, among others.
