“Whether rain or shine, you continue to carry out your assigned tasks to expectations. I consider you all-from top to bottom as the backbone of this great institution and I will be ungrateful if I don’t openly acknowledge your relentless contributions and sacrifices not only to this noble media institution, but also to the Liberian people and the world at large, which this paper dearly serves,” kanneh stated. “Even though we are not having a formal celebration to have food or drinks as usual or to have an indoor program, your tasks remain the same. Remember that you still have that sacred responsibility to the Liberian people; the public right to know must be your cardinal responsibility. You must remain professional, fearless and unbending as you have been,” Kanneh further stated.
The Heritage boss made these comments on Saturday, October 24, 2020 when he spoke briefly to the employees and staff of the institution. The brief gathering took place at the head offices of the paper situated at City Plaza, Third Floor, Apartment 9, Carey Street, Monrovia, Liberia. At the same time, Kanneh also paid tribute to his predecessor, Mr. Momo Kanneh and some former employees and staff of the Heritage, who according him, also contributed greatly to the paper, especially during its formative stage. He also thanked the general public, local and international friends for their moral and other support, which he noted, is also helping to move the paper forward.
Since its establishment on October 24, 1996, the Heritage has stood tall as one of the leading newspapers in the country, and is also regarded as one of the nation’s most credible newspaper in terms of professionalism. Based on its high level of professionalism during the 24 years of its existence, the paper won several local and international awards, including the prestigious Press Union of Liberia (PUL) Best Newspaper of the Year Award and the European Union (EU) Best Newspaper Award among others. Like many organizations and institutions locally and internationally, the financial crisis caused by COVID-19 forced the paper off the market for several weeks even though it robustly operated from its website during that period. However, the paper has since resurfaced on the market, maintaining its previous position-daily paper on the market.
