Dedication of 14 Gobachop Market Finally Set For This Friday

PAYNESVILLE,LIBERIA - At long last, the dedication of the modern 14 Gobachop Market is now slated for this Friday, October 9, 2020, following the postponement of the dedication of the market due to the leadership crisis within the Liberia Marketing Association ( LMA), which is clothed with the authority to manage the market.

The US$3.8m Gobacop Market is situated in Paynesville, near Monrovia. The LMA has been rocked by leadership crisis for many years owing to reported corruption. Addressing Executive Mansion reporters on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 regarding the new date, Presidential Press Secretary, Mr. Isaac Solo Kelgbeh, disclosed that President George Manneh Weah has ordered the Paynesville City Corporation( PCC) to effectively manage the day to day activities of the new market until next year at which time the LMA shall have gone through election to elect  for a new leadership that will manage the affair of the market. “On the 9th of this month, the President will dedicate the Gobachop Market. For now, the Paynesville City Corporation will take over the management of the new market until otherwise other. We are told that they will be going into elections next year by February. Until that time, the PCC will take charge. That is the mandate from above,” stated Presidential Press Secretary Kelgbeh.

Previously, President Weah had ordered Minister Nathaniel McGill and the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment ( LACE) to investigate and settle the crisis before he( President) can officially turnover the market peacefully. The presidential press secretary added that the completion of the modern market is a clear manifestation of President Weah's commitment to actualize his promise to the Liberian people. However, the decision by the President to allow the leadership of the PCC to take charge of the new Gobachop Market is said to have not gone well with the current leadership of the LMA, with some of them describing the decision for the PCC to temporarily manage the affairs of the new market as a total breach of what they called the LMA Code of Conduct. In another development, the presidential press secretary told reporters that President Weah is expected to break ground on Tuesday, October 12, 2020 for the construction of a new Duala Market.

He mentioned that the chief executive will on October 16, 2020 travel to Ganta City, Nimba County for the dedication of a newly constructed market. Amongst other things, he added that the chief executive is gearing up to tour nearby counties where several developmental projects have been implemented.
