Health Ministry Validates Two Policy Documents

The Ministry of Health has convened a four- day working session in Ganta, Nimba County with local officials, civil society and government ministries and agencies to validate two policy documents.

The documents are aimed at reintroducing the Drug Revolving Fubds and the decentralization of county health structures.

A  Health Ministry statement signed by its Communication Consultant, Mr. Sorbor George, said the meeting follows series of nationwide consultation for the reintroduction of the Drug Revolving Funds or fees for service .

If the documents are validated,  they will augment the government’s budgetary and donors supports to the health sector.

The documents will also spell out a mechanism that will allow healthcare providers to properly account for fees that will be collected from care seekers.

Currently, Liberia runs a healthcare sector budget of 60 million.

Personnel take a huge chunk of the budget while drugs acquisition lags behind.

The ongoing validation meeting is being held under the supervision of the Department of Planning at the Health Ministry.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Health Minister, Varfee Tulay, thanked the participants for coming and pleaded their full cooperation to make the validation meeting successful.

He said the meeting was significance as it will give health care another dimension in the interest of the people .

The four- day meeting ends Thursday following which a decision will be made for a full roll out of the RDF.

Key units of the ministry are attending the meeting include: the Office of the General Counsel, Financial Management , the USAID funded  Performance Based Financing among others
