Lawmaker Cole, who represents Bong County District #2 in the House of Representatives on the ticket of the ruling Coalition for Democratic(CDC), claimed that there is what he referred to as a ‘special game’ being played by the Minister and others since 2016 at the PhebeHospital, stating that ‘enough is enough’.
Speaking to reporters in Monrovia, the lawmaker averred that it will completely undermine the grant and subsidy policy crafted by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) if the current draft budget, which is nearing concurrence by the Liberian Senate to be considered for subsidy of Phebe in the tune of about US$1.5M, contrary to the policy.
He wondered and argued while it is so hard for a decision or an inquiry to be made by Minister Jallah to find out and disclosethe status of the health facility under the subsidy and grant policy of the Government of Liberia(GoL).
He branded such alleged act of corruption at the Phebe Hospital as ‘economic gangsterism’, which he pointed out, should stop now.
Phebe Hospital, one of the biggest health facilities in Bong County, has over the period been surrounded by controversies ranging from leadership crisis to corruption, lack of essential drugs and limited man power at the health facility and many others.
Under the subsidy and grant policy formulated by the MFDP, no private health facility should receive a subsidy over or above a million United States Dollars, something the Bong County Lawmaker warned, if not addressed soon, will happen in the case of Phebe Hospital in Bong County.
Though the health facility is situated in the Lawmaker's district, he told reporters that he wants the right thing to be done and to as well fight corruption in the health sector.
Meanwhile, there have been no official reactions from Minister Jallah regarding the call by Rep. Cole for her-Health Minister to resign immediately due to her alleged failure as a Minister of Health to distinguish whether Phebe Hospital in Bong County is a private or public institution as claimed by the Bong County lawmaker.
