We had and continue to witness that some people, without remorse, drop waste in the streets, while others dump waste right into drains, that are meant to carry waste water.
This untidy habit is prevalent in Monrovia and its environs. The relevant Government of Liberia(GOL) agencies, specifically the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) continue to express serious concerns over what we consider as unneeded act, which authorities say, contributes greatly to the untidy nature of several parts of Monrovia and its surroundings.
As a result of this unwarranted act, it is often common during the rainy season to find drains choked to the brim with solid waste materials, mainly plastic bags and feces.
The disgusting odor from these drains is huge, not to mention about providing a breeding ground for mosquitos, which cause malaria and other water borne diseases.
Considering the danger the dumping of the solid waste in the streets and into drains pose to our environment, we again urge all those who are involved in this needless habit to stop, as this uncalled-for act is doing our country more harm than good.
Frankly, we all need to buttress the GOL efforts in keeping our city clean.
We must do everything to help keep our city and environment clean for the good of our beloved country, Liberia.
