Ex-President Sirleaf Wants Women Full Participation In Gov’t Featured

Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf wants the institutionalization of women’s participation in national government.

Serving as motivational speaker to young women recently in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Madam Sirleaf called for an extra affirmative action to recognize that women have been disadvantaged for a long time, stating that the Constitution and laws of Liberia are straight forward on the issue.

Speaking at a two-day training organized by NAYMOTE and partners for democratic development, Madam Sirleaf encouraged women to maintain their dignity and rights in efforts to make a mark in national decision-making.

The former Liberian president called on females in the Liberia National Legislature to push for the full protection of the rights and well-being of women at various ministries and agencies of government. She lauded organizers of the training for promoting the rights of women through human capacity building.
