Making the donation at a brief ceremony on January 11, 2021 at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia offices located in Congo Town, Chinese Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, H.E. Ren Yisheng said “Today, on behalf of the Chinese Government, I am pleased to formally hand over the Lassa Fever medication to the Liberian Government to help meet the needs and treat Lassa Fever patients in Liberia. The Chinese Envoy further said “Today, the embassy is also pleased to donate another 1,800 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Liberian Government through NPHIL to better protect public health workers who are fighting on the front-line”.
For her part, the Director General of NPHIL, Jane MaCauley thanked the Chinese Embassy for the quick response based on a formal request from the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, for assistance of both ribavirin Injections and Tablets. She assured that the donated items will be used for its intended purpose. Dr. Francis Kateh, Chief Medical Officer of Liberia, who signed for the consignment on behalf of the government of Liberia, praised the government and people of China, for the many assistances to the people of Liberia. He said China and Liberia have supported each other in the fight of Covid-19, as well as during the fight against Ebola. “This donation is timely because during this time of the year, is when we experience increase in the cases of Lassa Fever”, he disclosed. He further averred that the people of Liberia are grateful for the donation and assured as well that they will be used for it intended purpose.
