The CPP Chairman and members of his delegation were visiting the southeastern region of Liberia to meet with their supporters and celebrate the country’s 173rd Independence Anniversary when the hostile incident occurred.
For us, President Weah’s depiction of the Zwedru’s attack as unwarranted, undemocratic and unacceptable is timely and in the right direction.
We also welcome the president’s pledge to bring to justice the perpetrators of the Zwedru hostile incident, which has been widely condemned. However, we encourage the chief executive to match his words with deeds by leaving no stone unturned in bringing to justice all those involved in the incident so as to serve as a deterrence for others who may want to engage into similar barbaric act.
On the other hand, we also commend the Grand Gedeh Legislative Caucus and other prominent citizens of the country for swiftly condemning the actions of their compatriots. It is important for Liberians of good will to be unequivocal in their condemnations so that the perpetrators understand that no Liberian should be denied the constitutional right to freely travel in the confines of their own country because of their political affiliations or differences.
To this end, we again applaud the president, call on him to ensure that the Zwedru incident is addressed promptly without fear or favor.
