The global launch of the report will be performed by His Excellency Iván Duque Márquez, the President of Colombia, and Mr. Achim Steiner, the UNDP Administrator, in Bogota, Colombia, while the Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Howard Taylor, is expected to launch the report in Monrovia.
The theme of the report is “Human Development Report 2019: Beyond income, beyond averages, beyond today: Inequalities in human development in the 21st century”.
The report, which highlights inequality, provides a comprehensive picture of the many forms of inequality that are shaping the 21st century and focuses on understanding the dimensions of inequality most important to people’s well-being, and what is behind them.
It goes beyond the dominant discourse on income disparities to also consider inequalities in other dimensions such as health, education, access to technologies, and exposure to economic and climate-related shocks.
The event to be held in Liberia at the Monrovia City Hall and other counties, will bring together central and local Government officials, youth and women groups, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), academia, civil society organizations, the UN System, as well as experts on human development.
Human development experts propose the need to sharpen measurements that would better describe what inequality looks like and to have a deeper understanding of how inequality will change given the economic, social and environmental transformations that are unfolding worldwide.
