Pres. Boakai suspends Governance Commission Bosses, appoints LTA Interim Board

Barely 48 hours after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. warmly embraced the recent rulings from the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia concerning the recent appointments within the tenure positions, the actions reverberated across Monrovia as he wielded his authority to uphold integrity and accountability in government institutions.

Effective immediately, President Boakai has suspended Garrison Yealue, Chairperson  and Madam Elizabeth Dorkin, Commissioner of the Governance Commission, citing their involvement in activities conflicting with the institution's mandate.

President Boakai's decision rippled through the corridors of power, sparking discussions and debates about the responsibilities of public officials and the consequences of deviating from them.

Some hailed the move as a bold step towards cleansing the system of corruption and malpractice, while others questioned the timing and motivations behind the suspensions.

Committing to transparency, President Boakai initiated a thorough investigation, stressing the importance of cooperation from the suspended officials.

His unwavering dedication to fairness and justice underscored his resolve to maintain the rule of law and ethical standards among public servants.

The establishment of a committee to probe the matter signaled President Boakai's commitment to due process and accountability.

He understood the significance of impartiality and detailed-oriented in such investigations, knowing that the credibility of the outcome would hinge on the integrity of the process.

Simultaneously, in a bid to ensure continuity and stability within the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA), the President appointed an interim team comprising of  Mr. Ambullah L. Kamara, Mrs. Angela Cassell Bush, Mr. Clarence K. Massaquoi, Mr. Ben A. Fofana, and Mr. Patrick Honnah as Acting Chairperson and Acting Commissioners.

These appointments, he emphasized, would remain in effect until the completion of the General Auditing Commission's audit.

It can be recalled that in 2020 former President George Manneh Weah suspended the Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Ivan G. Brown for time indefinite with immediate effect for administrative reasons.

The President's actions were not merely about addressing immediate concerns but also about setting a precedent for accountability and ethical governance.

He assimilated that his decisions would resonate beyond the current situation, shaping perceptions of his administration's commitment to upholding the public trust.

President Boakai's decisive measures aimed not only to address current lapses but also to deter future misconduct, sending a clear message that deviation from duty and obligations would not be tolerated under his administration.

As Liberia grappled with the implications of his actions, one thing became abundantly clear: President Boakai was steadfast in his pursuit of a government that served the people with integrity and transparency.
